tea for one chords

What are the best ways of taking care of your vocal chords?

I’m a singer and i’m looking for ways that i can best take care of my vocal chords. At the moment i know to avoid dairy, and drink honey and lemon tea when i get sick.
any tips and tricks would be handy

You don’t have to avoid dairy, only right before you sing – it can cause build up of phlegm. Don’t scream, don’t clear your throat (coughing is actually better for you than clearing your throat, but excessive coughing can damage your cords, too). Drink lots of water, so that when you do sing you are well-hydrated and less likely to hurt your cords. Avoid NSAIDs before you sing (ibuprofen, etc.) Also avoid Tylenol, Aleve, aspirin. They increase your ability to bleed and your vessels could be closer to the surface in your vocal cords. If one of the vessels popped, it would damage your voice severely. Don’t overuse your voice. If it feels tired, stop. Don’t practice until your voice is so tired that you are “hoarse” – you will be doing more damage than good.

Getting plenty of rest, exercise, and good nutrition can only improve your general overall health and in turn you may not get sick as often (i.e., less colds!)

Also, you need to make sure you are practicing good singing habits when you are singing; hopefully you have a teacher! If not, you need to get one so they can guide you in the right direction. Many people who damage their voice do it from overuse or incorrect technique (many pop stars, jazz singers – as much as I love Ella Fitzgerald, she had to have surgery to remove vocal nodes which are like callouses on your cords).

also, no smoking!

tea for one chords
Attention singers! : dry voice/throat, any remedies?

My voice is very dry. For two reasons, one, I was drinking too much pepsi, and two, my living conditions are dry and hott most of the time. I’m seriously thinking of buying a vaporizer to put in my room at night when I sleep to add moisture in the air, hopefully that gets rid of that problem. As for the pepsi, I’ve kicked it the curb! lol, ( it wasn’t easy either I was addicted), anyways, I was wondering if any of you knew some kind of special tea to drink, or any other remedies that will help keep my vocal chords and throat hydrated (other than water). The only thing I know of is decaf herbal tea with some honey in it.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! :)
Thank you for your time

VAPORIZER! great idea :)

sucking on Lemons helps some,

as well as…

spoon full of honey,
warmed water,
steam,
anything really that you would think of to help with sinus congestion lol

but really the best tip is the one you gave yourself. a vaporizer won’t just be good for your voice but for your health your skin and even your hair <3

hope i helped!
