I got my toung pierced and…..?
I was told that if the swelling in my tong don’t go down in 48 hours that i need to take out the piercing. I am still swelled and it is the 2nd day and i have been eating ice chips and cold water . I also am using biotene’ mouth wash ( cancer patients use this if they get mouth soars from Keomo). The swelling in my neck and pain are gone but i am scared my Tong will not go back down. could this happen?
I had some one tell me also that i need to gargle with salt water and use green tea bags to take the swelling down. Why is the tip of my Tong numb? I cant talk normal either will i be able to eventually or did i paralyze my Tong a little from the piercing? I am taking ibuprofen. I was told this will help the swelling go down along with the pain. Please no crazy answers. I am already scared the way it is. Thank you in advance.
My tongue was swollen for 4-5 days and I couldn’t talk properly until it healed and I got a shorter bar put in.
No, it cannot happen. Eventually your swelling will go down unless it is infected (and even if it is infected DO NOT take the bar out – that will cause the bacteria to get trapped inside the hole and basically – it’s not a pretty thing. If you suspect infection, go to the piercer and ask.)
There is also no need to take the piercing out after 2 days if the swelling doesn’t go down. Those balls are screwed down damn tight and it’ll be difficult and incredibly painful for you to try unscrew so soon. My friend had to get her dad to unscrew her tongue ring with pliers. The only reason to take it out so soon after piercing is if the swelling prevents or obstructs your breathing (very rare) or if the bar is not long enough and the piercing “sinks” into the tongue.
The tip of my tongue also went numb and still went numb every now and then up until about 2 months after the piercing.
Gargling salt water will prevent infection, just don’t use to much salt because it’ll kill your tongue’s natural bacteria that will help the wound heal.
For future – RESEARCH before stabbing holes in your body. If you had looked up tongue piercing before getting it done, you would realise that all your symptoms are completely normal.
